We have gone screen-free. Not just for a week. I told the boys at least a month, maybe a year. Schoolwork is still allowed, and since we’re doing some child-led schoolwork, I told them they may apply to me for exceptions on a case-by-case basis. Verdi is still busily assembling his Pi, for example.

Every day I am noticing different benefits. There haven’t really been that many hard moments yet. Today’s side effect of being screen-free: my silent, introspective twelve-year-old keeps coming out of his daydreams to tell me what he is thinking. That never happens. I’m pleased.
